This 7 year old dog needs extractions. Which teeth should be removed and why?

Both 303 and 403 have large pulp cavity diameters and are non-vital. Although root canal therapy is an option extraction is the most common approach in smaller teeth in dogs and cats. The remaining incisors have lost most of their marginal bone height and are clinically mobile so all must be removed.

Although we will discuss managing simple extractions in detail in the webinar this month the question becomes what do we do from here?

A bur is used to remove granulation tissue and smooth bone. The edges of the defect are contoured.

The area is sutured using 4-0 or 5-0 monofilament suture.

Is a bone graft needed and why or why not? If a bone graft is utilized what are some new alternatives?

These questions and many more will be addressed in our Simple Extraction Webinar on June 19. Registration is available for this webinar or the entire 5 part series. This is the most comprehensive extraction CE available. Registrants will have unlimited access to all course materials and a copy of the webinar recording.
