Why is anesthesia free dentistry not that bad and why should you care?

Before I was a board certified dentist I was in general practice

I spent 11 years cleaning teeth and only extracting mobile teeth that were blatantly mobile. I didn’t have the equipment or the training to take radiographs let alone interpret them. So there was no way that I could treat those poor patients the way that they should be treated.

So I was practicing Anesthesia Free Dentistry under anesthesia!

The problem is that most veterinarians still today do not know how to look at dental radiographs and make quick treatment decisions. So patients are cleaned, maybe loose teeth are extracted but all else is left again anesthesia free dentistry under anesthesia! This includes all of the tissue debris, foreign particles (hair, grass, calculus, food) that is left in the empty socket.

That is exactly why I created a course that provides 5 hours of training for the veterinarians on radiographic interpretation. Once you experience this course you will progress from that uncomfortable and awkward feeling of not being able to decide what to do during each dentistry procedure, to a superior level of confidence in reading dental radiographs. It will allow you to make efficient, stress free decisions for optimal treatment of your patients oral diseas especially periodontal disease.

Hi Brett,

Thanks to your excellent guide, and setting up templates, we’re doing full mouths in 5-10 minutes now. I have already found several hidden problems that required treatment.

“Attending Dr. Beckman’s canine dental wet lab was the single most valuable CE I had experienced in my then 10 years as a veterinarian.”

“I was already doing fairly good dentistry, was using dental x-rays and had good technicians, but Dr. Beckman taught me how to utilize those tools to be a better practitioner and to be more profitable.”

Dr. Geoffrey Adams
Pasco Animal Hospital
New Port Richey, Florida

“Dr. Beckman thanks again for an amazing conference in Indianapolis! We have been doing X-rays in lateral recumbency and they were hit or miss if they would turn out. Using your technique my tech took the full mouth X-ray series one time only and it was perfect. So excited!”

Lauren Tassone, DVM
Prairie State Veterinary Clinic
Orland Park, IL

“Following Dr. Beckman’s courses our patients are under anesthesia for much less time, the anesthetic episodes are much smoother with better pain management and our patients have very comfortable recoveries.”

“Our clients are very happy with the results and have a better understanding of the reason and expense of treatment when they can see their pet’s X-rays.”
