Veterinary Dentistry Dental Cases

Malocclusion

Malocclusion

I have recently been monitoring the dental development of a cocker spaniel bitch, Daisy, that has an undershot jaw.

The photos were taken at 22.5 weeks old, 24.5 weeks old, and 26.5 weeks old.

I extracted the maxillary deciduous canine teeth and the permanant maxillary corner incisor teeth at 25 weeks old.

The mandibular canine teeth have now got a space to continue to erupt into, and the permanent maxillary canine teeth are no longer being pushed rostrally by their deciduous counterparts.

I explained to the owner that the rest of the maxillary incisors may need to be extracted because of their contact with the mandibular incisors.

What would you all have done faced with this case?

I look forward to hearing from you.

With best wishes,

David
