Hi Dr. Beckman,
I had a dog 7 years of age F/S Lab in for a dental and noticed these lesions on rads. The teeth looked great grossly and no lesion were noted when probed. What would be your suggestions if I encounter lesions like this again (i.e. extraction or monitor)?

Hi Dr. Bannister,
The premolars with the horizontal lucency have likely been fractured apcial to the marginal bone level and since there is no oral cavity exposure of the fracture these generally require no treatment. The exception would be evidence of endodontic disease radiographically. In this case there is no evidence. You also have external resorption on some of the roots that are again not a problem unless the resorption subsequently involves the crown. At that point extraction or crown amputation (if the bone replacement of the root structure is complete) are the options.
