This miniature poodle has periodontal disease and endodontic disease affecting the left mandibular second molar (tooth 310). The tooth is mobile and has a wide periodontal ligament space and a periapical lucency.
Close approximation to the mandibular molar makes a bone graft a good choice. This will maintain the alveolar ridge, maximizing the height of the bone upon healing.
A beta tricalcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite graft (Synergy) was used at the extraction site.
Seven months postoperatively the bone height is maintained.
