Brett Beckman is a 1987 graduate of Mississippi State University. His veterinary career started in Memphis where he practiced for 12 years. During that time he pursued advanced education in emergency and critical care medicine and surgery, ophthalmology and oral surgery. For the last 15 years he has studied under human and veterinary specialists throughout the United States and Canada.
Dr Beckman is president of the American Veterinary Dental Society. Dr Beckman is the sole veterinarian in the world who has completed extensive training to become regarded as a Fellow in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, a Diplomate in the American Veterinary Dental College and a Diplomate in the American Academy of Pain Management. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the field of veterinary dentistry, oral surgery and pain management. He has been honored as a candidate for the American Veterinary Medical Association/Delta Society national award for Veterinarian of the Year for 2004. In 2007 Dr. Beckman was honored as Alumnus of the Year by the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
He owns and operates a companion animal and referral dentistry and oral surgery practice in Punta Gorda, Florida. Dr. Beckman also accepts dentistry cases at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Orlando, Florida and Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta. He lectures throughout the United States on topics related to dentistry and pain management . Dr. Beckman is the official veterinarian for Gulf Coast Pet Partners, a non-profit organization that provides pet visitations to nursing homes, hospitals and mental health facilities.
The Veterinary Dental Education Center in Punta Gorda, Florida offers accredited veterinary dental courses for veterinarians and technicians in the spring and fall of each year.
Dr. Beckman, his wife Lecia of 27 years and daughter Lauren enjoy spending time together adventure traveling, golfing and scuba diving.
