Maltese with Stomatitis Update
by Brett on Aug.28, 2009, under Veterinary Dental Cases
Erythema Multiforme was the diagnosis based upon histopath. The picutures here are before and after prednisone and antibiotic therapy of the palatal mucosa. Dermatology rechecked this patient at two weeks post immunosuppressive doses of pred, saw and excellent response and then start to taper. This is two weeks later. Nice response however the view of the caudal buccal mucosa shows epithelial sloughing and severe stomatitis consistent with chronic ulcerative paradental stomatitis (CUPS). Since no other potential causes coexisted with onset the EM is thought to have been a result of the antigenic properties of the oral pathogens and that the CUPS was the inciting event. High pred doses were resumed with recheck scheduled in two weeks.
